New TEAC GF-290 Nostalgia Record w/ Turntable CD Player
[TEA9-GF290]

Model number: TEA9-GF290

Price: $98.98

Nostalgic music fans that look back fondly on the radio and TV consoles of the ''30s, ''40s, and ''50s will delight in the Teac GF-290 stereo system, which combines modern components with a retro design. The system is housed in a classic wooden cabinet with a pair of old-fashioned (in appearance, anyway) speakers built into the front housing. Inside the old-school box, however, sit all the modern music complements, along with a couple that hark back a few decades. The device is centered around a front-loading CD player for enjoying modern digital formats (including self-recorded CD-R and CD-RW discs), along with a three-speed, belt-drive turntable that lets you listen to your original Stones recordings on vinyl. Users can also revisit the era when pop singles and R&B cuts ruled the airwaves by speeding the turntable to 45 or 78 rpm.

Of course, any good classic console also needs an AM/FM radio, and the GF-290''s analog tuner does the trick. The radio knob and station display are particularly cool, as they pay homage to the classic designs of the Depression era. And should you tire of CDs, LPs, and the radio, you can always pop in your ''80s cassettes for a big-hair flashback.

The most significant modern touch comes in the form of the two-way speaker system, which boasts a pair of 2.5-inch drivers that sound nothing like the scratchy speakers of yesteryear. The built-in speakers also turn this console stereo into a relatively portable unit, as all the components are housed in the same cabinet. The console system measures 17.37 by 10.25 by 13.66 inches (W x H x D)--small enough to carry without too much trouble--and weighs 18.8 pounds.

The 1930''s were an age of lost innocence with a redefinition of wealth as people struggled to survive the depression and public works projects launched civilization further into the 20th century. The rumbling beginnings that would lead to World War II were beyond the horizon of life in the USA. Music was the thing and swing was king on radio waves and records. Teac GF-290 Nostalgia Stereo System is reminiscent of that period of the 20th century but also adds a CD and Cassette player. Rotary volume control with on/off Function selector Requires 120V AC, 60Hz USA Plug (power cord included) Size WHD - 17.37 x 10.25 x 13.66 Weighs - 27.8 pounds
