System Overview: This integrated system includes a single-disc DVD/CD player/receiver, 2 identical satellites, and a separate powered subwoofer. A multibrand remote is included for system control.

Features

Digital Audio Output Capabilities: You can select an LPCM output setting of On or Off. When On is selected and you are playing a DVD recorded in 96 kHz, the signal is down converted to 48 kHz/16-bit before it is passed through the digital output. When Off is selected and the unit is playing a non-copy-protected DVD recorded in 96 kHz, a 96 kHz/24-bit signal passes through the digital outputs. If the DVD is copy-protected, the digital signal is automatically down converted.

Progressive Scan Output: This unit may be set to output a progressive scan or interlaced video signal from the component video output. Instead of splitting each video frame into two sequential fields like interlaced scanning, progressive scanning displays the entire frame in a single sweep. Where a standard DVD player's 480i output displays 30 frames (60 fields) per second, a progressive-scan player's 480p output displays 60 full frames per second. Progressive-scan picture quality is more film-like, with more fine detail and less flicker. Progressive-scan viewing requires a TV with a progressive scan compatible component video input.

Analog Devices Melody 100 HammerHead SHARC DSP: The DVD player/receiver features the Hammer Head SHARC, a high-speed, high-performance DSP normally featured in Denon's high-end A/V surround amps/receivers.

Dolby Virtual Speaker: The Dolby Virtual Speaker mode uses 3D sound technology from Dolby Laboratories to achieve multi-channel surround sound using only two speakers for the front channels. With two speakers for the front channels, one of two modes can be selected: Reference or Wide. The Dolby Virtual Speaker mode can be used not only with Dolby Digital and DTS multi-channel sources but also with 2-channel sources. With 2-channel sources, one of two 2-channel modes can be selected: Virtual 1 (Dolby Pro Logic II Cinema) and Virtual 2 (Dolby Pro Logic). With a multi-channel speaker configuration (for example 5.1 channels), the Dolby Virtual Speaker mode provides different effects according to the speaker configuration.

Expandable to a 5.1-channel Playback System: The preamp output jacks let you further expand the system by adding an amplifier, center speaker, and surround speakers to create a genuine 5.1-channel surround system.

Note: The following modes are only available when using an optional amplifier, center speaker, and surround speakers in a genuine 5.1-channel surround system: Dolby Digital, DTS, 5CH Stereo, Mono Movie, and Matrix.
Dolby Headphone: Dolby Headphone is a 3D sound technology that achieves surround sound with regular headphones. Dolby Headphone simulates speaker playback in a room and positions the sound sources to the front or the sides, outside of the headphones, achieving a powerful sound similar to that of a movie theater or home theater. There are four Dolby Headphone modes creating different sound field effects: DH1 (small room with little reverberation), DH2 (room with more reverberation than DH1), DH3 (large room), and Bypass (normal stereo playback). The Dolby Headphone mode is compatible with Dolby Digital and DTS multi-channel sources. With 2-channel sources, playback in the Cinema, Music 1 and Music 2 modes can be selected with the 2-channel mode setting.

Personal Memory Plus: The Personal Memory Plus function automatically memorizes the surround mode, surround parameters, TONE/SDB control settings, and playback level balance for each of the separate input sources.

MP3/WMA Playback: This unit will play MP3/WMA files recorded onto CD-ROM, CD-R and CD-RW discs using the ISO 9660 level 1 format. MP3 files with a compression rate from 32-320 kbps and WMA files with a compression rate from 64-160 kbps are supported.

JPEG Playback: This unit will play JPEG files recorded onto CD-ROM, CD-R and CD-RW discs using the ISO 9660 level 1 format. JPEG files with resolutions up to 2048 x 1536 are supported. The following functions are available during JPEG disc playback: slideshow, zoom, and image rotation, which allows you to rotate the current image 90-degrees clockwise or counterclockwise, or flip the image vertically or horizontally.

Zoom: The zoom feature allows you to get an increasingly close-up view of the image. Each press of the Zoom button increases the magnification for a total zoom of up to 4x. You can also move the zoomed image around the screen.

Resume Play: This feature allows you to resume playback of a disc from the point where you last stopped. The stopping point is cleared from memory if you remove the disc or press the Stop button a second time.

Picture Mode: You can choose one of the following picture modes:

Standard: both the picture quality and functions are set back to the standard settings set upon shipment from the factory
Anime: this sets a brighter more vivid picture quality
Cinema: this sets a mellower picture quality
Memory 1 to 3: picture quality settings you have adjusted can be stored at three memory positions
Timers: The system has the following timers:

Sleep Timer: The sleep timer switches the unit off after a specified amount of time. The sleep timer can be set to 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 90, or 120 minutes.
Everyday Timer: The power is switched on and off (standby) once at the same time each day.
Once Timer: The power is switched on and off (standby) at the specified time once only.
Note: If the times set for the everyday timer, once timer and sleep timer overlap, the sleep timer has priority. The once time has priority if the everyday
timer and once timer times overlap.
Last Function Memory: This unit is equipped with a last function memory, which stores the input and output setting conditions as they were immediately before the power was switched off.

Back-Up Memory: The unit is also equipped with a back-up memory. This function provides memory storage when the main unit's power switch is off and with the power cord disconnected.

Tuner: This system has a digital AM/FM Tuner. You can store up to 40 AM/FM station presets so that you always have easy access to your favorite stations without having to tune them in manually each time. Each preset can be given a name up to 8 characters in length. FM tuning is done in 0.2 MHz steps and AM tuning is done in 10 kHz steps.

Speaker System

Powered Subwoofer: The 95-watt powered subwoofer features a down-firing 6-1/4'' cone woofer in a bass-reflex enclosure.

Satellites: Each satellite speaker features a 3/4'' poly dome tweeter and two 2-1/4'' woven fiber cone woofers with cloth surrounds. An MDF material has been used above and below the aluminum enclosure to form a hybrid construction of metal and wood that produces high-quality sound with natural acoustic characteristics not possible with aluminum alone. Each enclosure is covered by a removable, gray cloth grille. The satellites have 5-way binding posts that will accept bare wire, pin connectors, spade connectors, banana plugs, and dual banana plugs.

Satellite Speaker Mounting: There are two 5mm (M5) threaded inserts on the bottom of each speaker for use with optional speaker stands or wall brackets. Self-adhesive cork anti-slip pads are included for shelf or tabletop placement.

Video-shielding: The satellites and subwoofer are video-shielded, allowing them to be placed near your television without causing picture distortion.

Remote Control

Multibrand Remote: The D-M71DVSXP comes with a remote that is pre-programmed to operate this system and a number of functions on different brands of TVs and VCRs.

Inputs and Outputs Notes

Speaker Outputs: There are binding post connectors for the speaker outputs. The binding posts are not 5-way because a plastic collar prevents their use with spade lugs.

System Connectors: There are two minijack system connections that allow you to connect compatible Denon products.
